- Brake pedal response: If your brake pedal seems less responsive, your vehicle’s hydraulic system needs to be checked. It could be due to air in the lines, faulty and overused wheel cylinders. Spongy and soft brake pedal id often an indication of failing brake system.
- Hard pedal: If you are finding it difficult to push the pedal, there could be a problem in the power assist mechanism. Most vehicles use either vacuum or hydraulic power assist mechanism. In vacuum systems, loss of vacuum or a tear in the brake booster is likely responsible for failure of the brake system. In hydraulic systems, the brake fluid could be leaking or completely run out.
- Squeaking noise and vibrations: A mechanical issue in the braking system can cause a noise or grinding and vibrations when you hit the brake in your vehicle. Worn out brake pads often make such noise against the rotor and cause vibrations in the steering wheel.
