Exhaust & Muffler System Repair and Replacement for Trucks & Fleets

A damaged exhaust or muffler is not just an overly loud annoyance, it can greatly hinder the performance and fuel economy of your work vehicles. It can even become a life safety hazard, as one of the crucial functions of the exhaust system is to convey the noxious combustion fumes away from the cab.

On vehicles where the exhaust pipe is largely underneath the chassis, such as pickup trucks, corrosion from road salt and moisture is a huge factor in shortening the lifespan of the overall system. On larger work trucks, where a large portion of the exhaust piping is clearly visible on the side of the vehicle, having a deteriorating exhaust pipe can degrade your company’s image and professional reputation.

Truck Exhaust System Components

The exhaust system on your truck is much more than just the tailpipe sticking out of the back or the stack pipe on the side. Each component plays a vital role in the performance of your vehicle, and Red’s Garage can readily replace, and in some cases repair, any piece of the system that needs it.

Exhaust Manifold

The exhaust manifold is a device that collects the exhaust gases from the combustion chamber of the engine block and diverts the gases and particulates into one discharge pipe. This device experiences a great deal of stress in the form of heat and vibration, as it is in direct contact with the engine block.

Turbocharger

Diesel engines have a device in the exhaust system called a turbocharger, which is a turbine-driven forced induction device that increases the engine’s efficiency and power output by forcing extra compressed air into the combustion chamber. This extra forced air allows the engine to inject more fuel into the chamber, resulting in increased power to the drivetrain.

Catalytic Converter

Catalytic converters reduce toxic gases and pollutants from combustion exhaust, and help combat vehicular greenhouse gas emissions. Regulations concerning exhaust emissions require your fleet’s catalytic converters to be in good shape and functioning properly. Poorly functioning converters can result in costly fines for you and your company.

Muffler

As the name implies, this device is designed to muffle, or reduce, the amount of noise your truck produces. A muffler’s specially designed internal piping and insulation dampens the decibel level of the explosive internal combustion engine, and safely discharges the exhaust gases out through the tailpipe. Mufflers tend to corrode due to their usual proximity to the ground and the collection of moisture created during short drives.
