Truck Engine Maintenance and Repair

The engine in your truck literally keeps your business moving. Whether you have a fleet of trucks or a single pickup that gets you where you need to go, you rely on your engine to help you take care of your customers. It is critical to your business that your truck’s engine run as smoothly and reliably as possible. Lucky for you, Red’s Garage is here to take care of you

Engine Maintenance

All internal combustion engines, whether they run on gasoline or diesel, require proper lubrication to prevent major engine damage. The heat and pressure generated by diesel engine operation, not to mention the heat turbochargers create while spinning at up to 100,000rpm, can cause oil to form hard carbon deposits known as “coke”. These deposits can prevent oil from adequately lubricating the engine, which can grind your business to a halt.

Fluid Replacement

Routine fluid replacement is the most basic aspect of engine maintenance. The many fluids your truck needs to run efficiently and safely are
  • Engine oil - It is recommended by experts that the engine oil in your hardworking truck be changed every 3500 miles or 200 hours of operation, whichever comes first.
  • Engine coolant - Most vehicle manufacturers recommend changing your engine coolant every 24,000 to 36,000 miles.
  • Power steering fluid - Your owner’s manual will tell you the exact recommendation for change intervals, but if you are having a hard time moving your steering wheel while stopped or you can hear your power steering fluid pump whining, it is an immediate need.
  • Brake fluid - Flushing and refilling your brake fluid every 2 years is a great way to ensure proper operation.
  • Automatic transmission fluid - Manufacturers recommend changing this every 50,000 to 100,000 miles.
  • Differential fluid - If your truck is a 4x4, you will have both front and rear differential fluid as well as transfer case fluid. It is recommended to change your differential fluid every 25,000 to 30,000 miles.

Filter Replacement

Whenever any type of fluid needs to be flushed and replaced, the filter that keeps that fluid clean must also be replaced. The many filters in your engine play a huge role in the performance of your truck, and it is imperative they be replaced before they have worked past their optimal lifespan. At Red’s Garage, fluid changes and filter changes are performed on trucks of all sizes every day, and our expert technicians know the right filter and the right fluid can mean the difference between your truck serving you reliably for many years or being a constant headache.
